Due to the tragic loss in tri cities I would like to ask the PKA board to consider haveing a safety inspection done at Mac and PARC. I especially worry about PARC as things are ran a little looser there.
(even though i like it loose ;D!)

thank you for the consideration.

Mike, you said that safety was on the agenda of the board meeting Tuesday night. What was the result of that meeting?

Several items were brought up with further investigation of the track to be done.

The flag stand will be moved to the opposite side of the track.  Further plans are being made for a more permanent solution to placing the flagstand in such a way as remove it as an obsticle that can be hit by a karter.

More scribner barriers are being purchased to create a safer barrier to obsticles in several areas of the track.  Hay bales (with covering) have been purchased to provide a barrier until the scribner barriers could be put into place.

A special barrier (I forget the name) is being put into place at  the corner of the fence at the end of the straight, which is a significant safety issue when running the track in reverse.  We are also looking at providing similar protection for the pit exit/entrance.

The barriers at the fence in turn 8 are being moved and added to provide further protection from a racer being able to get into the fence.

The biggest thing being done is increased dedication and viligence to potential saftey issues around the track and developing both short term and long term solutions.

Thanks for the update Chris, and thanks to the PKA board for taking quick action to address these safety concerns.

Agreed... thanks guys for taking concern over this. It's horrible that a tragedy has to happen to make improvements, but good will come and we all will be safer. I don't get to Mac much, but it's nice to know it will be safe for the die-hard sprinters.

:)
