Chassis: Tony Kart Krypton CR125/Rotax
Hows it going everyone? So Riley Racing is looking to possibly make a move from Shifters and Rotax to WF Heavy. The reason being that we would all like to race together and have more competition.

With that in mind, I would like some input on best way to get the 4 karts WF Heavy ready.

I have 3 (09) Tony Kart Krypton's and 1 (09) Intrepid Cruiser Karts.

2 of the Toky Karts are setup currently for Stock Moto Shifter Class
1 Tony Kart is setup for Rotax Senior
1 Intrepid setup for Rotax Senior

I am thinking about possibly trying to sell the 2 Rotax Engine packages complete as well as a Stock Moto Shifter Package complete for 4 WF Bolt on and go packages. Does this seem doable?

I know with the 2 Stock Moto karts I will remove front breaks and rotors and anything else that might be unnecessary for WF Heavy.

I also may think about trading Complete Kart setups for Complete WF Karts setup and ready to go if it makes things easier.

Is WF Heavy still going to be the biggest OSKCS Class next year? I know the difference in speed is going to be pretty drastic but honestly with all the competition we will be facing I dont think we will be thinking about it all that much. I just want us to all be able to hit the track and feed off each other at the same time as a Team.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Adam,

I believe you are making a great choice for racing here in the northwest. There are times that I would like to try a Rotax or even a shifter, however, the most joy I get from this sport is awesome wheel to wheel racing and I think that the best racing in the northwest is our WF Heavy class. We have multiple (like 4 or more...) national champions in our class that really know how to drive. The competition is intense. If you win in this class, then you really know how to drive.

For the last several years we have had a total of about 50 different people that have competed in our class in a given year. On an average club race weekend, we expect to have around 20 guys every time. No matter where you are skill level wise, you are guaranteed to be racing someone. Can't get that in a shifter class.

As for the karts, I don't know much about shifter chassis. I do know that they tend to be stiffer than what most of us run in the WF class and that could make tuning them to run with our lower power a challenge. The rotax is often attached to our style of karts in other places so I would think it would be more likely to be successful.

Other than that, it is like you said, remove the front brakes, remove the third bearing in the back, learn how to change split gears (takes some practice), get the spec tires and weight up to 390+ and you are good to go.

The Tony Karts and the Intrepid have both been used to run in the W/F class with no major issues. With our weight, I tend to prefer the stiffer chassis (30-32mm).

You will need a different engine mount and you will need to move your sprocket carrier from outside the frame rails to inside.

Thanks a ton Mark and Hatch for the info. I will now have to see what I can do about parting out and selling 3 engine packages in hopes to find 4 WF Setups. Hopefully its something I can do before the season starts next year.
