Portland Karting Association at Oregon Raceway Park
Registration: Track Rabbit
Road racing hosted by the Portland Karting Association is conducted on full-size road courses typically used by cars, including Portland International Raceway and Oregon Raceway Park. Unlike sprint racing, the entire circuit is used, with track lengths generally ranging from 2 to over 4 miles.
These longer, faster circuits place a strong emphasis on straight-line speed, stability, and aerodynamics. As a result, many road racing karts utilize full bodywork to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The discipline also includes Enduro (or “laydown”) karts, where the driver is positioned nearly flat to reduce drag and maximize top speed. Road racing karts may run many of the same engines used in sprint or sit-up classes, but are configured specifically for sustained high speeds and endurance-style competition.
